Gentlemen,

I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of

your letter dated the 29th of April, 1929, with reference

to the recent visit of His Royal Highness the Duke of

Gloucester.

2.

The first paragraph of your letter is not

understood as no such arrangements as you refer to were in

fact made for other sections of the community. No

discourtesy was intended or shown to the Officers of the

Merchant Marine who received individually the same privileges

as individual members of other professions.

3.

All officers of the British Merchant Marine

who had called upon His Excellency the Governor and whose

names were, therefore, on the Government House lists of

visitors, were invited to the reception given by His

Excellency in honour of His Royal Highness on the afternoon

of the 26th April.

4.

If you desire to address the Secretary of

State for the Colonies on this matter the communication must

be submitted in accordance with Colonial Regulation No.200,
